Merga Victa Pošip on lees (sur lie) is a wine of golden color, with pronounced aromas of ripe stone fruits such as peach and apricot, aromas of yellow flowers, vanilla, toast, almonds.
It is dry, with a long-lasting and rounded finish.
PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION:
The grapes macerated at low temperatures for 3-8 hours.
The wine is produced by the sur lie method – on lees.
It is mixed on the grounds for 24 months. It was aged in medium-fired wooden barrels of 500 L, and 3 types were used: barrels made of American oak, French oak and Slavonian oak.
SITE:
The grapes come from the Smokvice vineyards, from selected locations that are traditionally considered the best for this variety. All vines are older than 40 years and the yield on them is small.
Pošip is a true Dalmatian variety of white grapes that was originally discovered by a local farmer 150 years ago in the village of Smokvica where the winery is located. Black Island Winery produces multiple lines, while the Merga Victa line is special.
In Smokvica itself, there are about two hundred vineyards located between 40 and 160 meters above sea level. The vines are at least 15 years old, and the selected grapes come with three different types of soil (red soil, sand and rocky) to achieve the right balance and harmony of wine. Sugar content 3.5 gr/l, acid 6.9 gr/l.
