Vincekovo Traditions in the Croatian Uplands

by Win Burke | Published January 22, 2021

Vincekovo, St. Vincent Day, January 22, marked a celebration of the New Wine Calendar. Also, February 1 is International Furmint Day. While we prefer the Croatian name Pušipel, the names Furmint, Šipon, or Mosler are all names for the same white grape variety that grows in the triangle in the Croatian Uplands, Slovenia, and Hungary (Tokaj). You can find more about Vincekovo in the short video below by ethnographer Vido Bagur, aka Mirena’s father. The video has also been published at https://www.croatiaweek.com/croatian-traditions-on-vincekovo-celebrated-on-22-january/
