Exciting week – as the only US wine importer with a portfolio from all four Croatian wine regions, we frequently work with the Croatian National Tourist Board and the Croatian Chamber of Economy, which oversees the regional wine associations, in business and marketing campaigns celebrating not only the beaches and history, but also the country’s gastro and wine offerings. In fact, you may remember that we started this journey on the premise that wine is a great ambassador for Croatia.
Enter the UN Week in New York City, and we worked with the two organizations which hosted the first ever US-Croatia Business Forum, during which they organized a visit of high-ranking companies from Croatia in various industries, bringing them together with potential American partners. Which wines do you think were both served and given as gifts at the event?
On behalf of both the Boston-based New England Friends of Croatia and the Global AVA, Mirena met many attendees and was introduced to the Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenkovic (see them on the left of the photo montage above). She “premiered” our strategic premise of “Wine as Ambassador”, and the concept resonated. Well, he may know a thing or two about wine – his family is from the island of Hvar. In fact, a year ago we visited their winery and are making plans for the next shipment.
Speaking of plans, it is time to announce our next Masterclass, focused on Istria, on Oct. 27 at 8 pm Eastern/5 pm Pacific. We will repeat the intro to Croatian regions, then focus on Istrian regions and winemaking as well as taste four wines: two whites – a Malvasia and a blend with Malvasia, followed by two reds – a coastal Teran as well as a Teran from Motovun, which have very different expressions.
